The Racial Justice Committee (RJC) is your hub for solidarity, action, and change within CUPE 2424. We exist to support racialized members, empower union leaders, and challenge systemic racism at Carleton University and beyond.

Through education, advocacy, and real community connection, we’re building something bigger than policy—we’re building power. We host workshops, lead conversations, organize events, and create space for the voices that need to be heard loudest.

Our work is rooted in intersectionality—because your race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and identity aren’t separate struggles. They’re interconnected, and so is our fight for justice.

This is about more than meetings. This is about movement.

Our Vision

We’re not here to tinker around the edges. We’re here to dismantle systemic racism—in our union, our workplace, our community.

We envision a future where racialized, marginalized, and Indigenous members aren’t just included—they’re centered. Where your voice doesn’t just get heard, it shapes decisions. Where respect isn’t performative, it’s structural.

We’re building toward equity that’s lived, not just written. A workplace culture where anti-racism isn’t a workshop topic—it’s the foundation. Where fairness, dignity, and justice aren’t aspirations, they’re non-negotiables.

That’s the world we’re organizing for. Join us.

✊ Our Mission

The Racial Justice Committee fights for the rights, needs, and dignity of racialized members within CUPE 2424 and across Carleton University. Here’s how we do it:

  • 📚 We educate. Through workshops, hard conversations, and accessible resources on anti-racism, equity, and solidarity.
  • 📢 We advocate. We bring member concerns to the table—loudly—and challenge the systems that create barriers to inclusion.
  • 🤝 We organize. Building community through programming, events, and ongoing dialogue about race, power, and justice.
  • 🌈 We honor intersectionality. Your identity is complex. So is our solidarity. We fight for all of you—race, gender, sexuality, ability, and beyond.

This work isn’t optional. It’s urgent.
